An important aspect of gas detection system design is sensor placement.  This placement should be verified by a hazard analysis and an analysis of the ventilation system and patterns.  Usually, the ventilation patterns in an area are complex and can only be understood by smoke testing. 

As part of our design and verification processes, we frequently specify smoke testing.  Smoke testing is helpful as part of the design process when the sensors are to be installed in an existing building.  Using input from owners, we use smoke to simulate the loss of gas.  In a new building construction, smoke testing can be used to verify the placement of sensors under different ventilation conditions.  Smoke testing can be completed with a Fire Marshal or other code compliance professional present to verify the effectiveness of the systems. 

Our field service team is uniquely qualified to conduct smoke testing.  Frequently this smoke testing is video taped for a permanent record of that the design was correctly installed.
